Itinerary
Día 1
Train to Devil's Nose
- This stretch of railway so difficult to build began in the year of 1899, being Eloy Alfaro president of Ecuador. Archer Harman and Edward Morely, were the representatives of the American company interested in the construction of the "most difficult railway in the world." Many lives were lost during the construction of this difficult work, considered today as a true “railway engineering masterpiece”.
- This route is called "Devil's Nose Train" for the unique figure that can be seen on the mountain during the tour, as well as for a popular legend dating back to the time of its construction. Jamaican, indigenous, Chinese and black were hired as train workers. The survivors told that it was the devil himself who stole part of the budget destined to finish the work.
- The construction of the Devil's Nose Train was so important, that today you can visit the Ecuador train museum located in the city of Riobamba. Here you can even find objects with which the railway company worked at that time.
- Once this magnificent tour is finished, we invite you to delight in the flavors of a delicious typical lunch before returning to the city of Cuenca.
