Día 2
Jerusalem Forest - Cochasqui - Night at the Otávalo Hotel
- Jerusalem Forest: Our adventure begins early in the morning, when we board our transport to leave the city of Quito and travel north to our first stop: the Jerusalem Forest. This dry forest, a tropical gem in the middle of the Andes, is one of the few remains of this unique ecosystem and is also the largest of its kind in the Andes. Jerusalem will redefine what you know about microclimates and adaptation to unusual climatic conditions, with cacti and other desert-type species that share their habitat with Andean trees that require heavy rains to survive.
- Trekking: We will take a short walk along the forest trails to observe the unique landscapes and flora, while enjoying the many species of birds that inhabit the forest.
- Box lunch: After this visit, we will enjoy this beautiful landscape while eating a box lunch, since there are no suitable restaurant options in the area.
- Cochasquí Pyramids: Then we will continue to the nearby Cochasquí pyramids: the largest pre-Inca archeological site in all of Ecuador.
- Return: After this visit, we will continue to the Otavalo Hotel, located in the Andean city of the same name, where we will rest at night.
- Meals: Breakfast- lunch- dinner.
Día 3
Otavalo - Condor Park - Cotacachi
- Breakfast
- Otávalo Market: After breakfast, we will go to the nearby indigenous market of Otávalo, the largest and most important of its kind in Latin America. The colorful main market of handicrafts and textiles extends through all the streets of Otávalo from the central Plaza de Ponchos, while the cacophony of the animal market remains on the outskirts of the city. On the other hand, the product market impresses with the variety and color of locally grown fruits and vegetables.
- Condor Park: From the market, we will continue to "Condor Park", a conservation project dedicated to the rescue and reintroduction of birds of prey (condors, vultures, owls) in their natural habitat. The project was funded and supported by many zoos and international organizations, which have also donated birds of different species found in the park. The visit includes a falconry show and a full explanation of the conservation efforts of the project.
- Lunch
- Cuicocha : Then, we will have lunch at a local restaurant and then we will go to Cuicocha, a lagoon in a crater at the foot of the Cotacachi volcano, still active. The lagoon and the two islands that are in it form an impressive landscape. After this visit, we will continue to the city of Cotacachi for a brief stop in the central square, where we can explore its shops, since Cotacachi is known for its handmade crafts and leather clothes.

The duration and level of difficulty of the walk can be adapted to each guest.

(Keep in mind that the freedom train operates from Wednesday to Sunday and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays).
